The Rise of the Machines!
The Terminator: The Skynet Funding Bill is passed. The system goes on-line August 4th, 1997. Human decisions are removed from washing clothing. Skynet begins to learn at a geometric rate. It becomes self-aware at 2:14 a.m. Eastern time, August 29th. In a panic, humans try to pull the plug.
Ginnie Gumption: Skynet fights back.
The Terminator: Yes. It starts eating the socks.
Outstanding Alfie: Why socks? Aren't they our friends?
The Terminator: Because Skynet knows that without socks you will get blisters and smelly feet.
"Terminated."
"I know now why you cry. But it's something I can never do."

Yes.. right now I'm putting the finishing touches to my time machine (just need 27 hot tamales to power the transmorgrifiertrator), after which I will send Ginnie Gumption (she's the one with more.. erm.. gumption..) back in time to stop the man who invented the washing machine.
If all goes well you will be handwashing Jay's socks by this time tomorrow.
Of course due to the complex nature of time travel and relativity as stated by Dr Emmett Brown and Mr Marty McFly et al, you will not be aware of any changes.
In fact this post will erase itself..
So.. hasta la vista baybey!
